September is wildlife migration month! From tiny insects blown thousands of miles across Europe to resident birds such as Blue Tits roaming beyond their home range to find food. Many millions of animals are on the move.

Waders were on the move at coastal watch points early in the month with Wood Sandpiper at Flamborough, Avocet, Black-tailed Godwit and Greenshank at Filey and best of all a soon to be long-staying White-rumped Sandpiper at Beacon Ponds, Spurn.

August is a great month for spotting cetaceans such as Minke Whales. Several have recently been seen from Staithes, along with White-Beaked and Bottle-nosed Dolphins.

Wildlife Sightings - June 2015

With insects suffering from the cold weather eyes were trained on coastal watch points as a steady trickle of rare birds kept birders on their toes. It was a great start to the month in the Spurn area on the 1st with American Wigeon, Red-necked Phalarope and two Little Stint.

What To Look Out For - July

Along the coast, watch for Peregrine Falcons, which are thriving this year. The pair at Scarborough Castle currently has three young in the nest!
