Yorkshire Birding Discovery Days

  • North and East Yorkshire

The Yorkshire Coast and Forests, Moors and Wolds, are amazing places for birdwatching. With resident species and migrants  from far and wide across the globe you never quite know what the day has in store.

These one-day tours are designed for anyone, from beginners to the more experienced, who wishes to join an enthusiastic small group tour where they will feel part of a team. YCN leaders are local expert birders with knowledge of the best birds to see on each day, with up-to-the-minute local info from all of our associates.

Each tour will focus on not only seeing and finding the best species on offer but also learning about identification, habitat, life cycle and much more in a relaxed and fun environment.

For 2018 we have chosen key dates when we will be concentrating on birding the North and East Yorkshire Coast, Moors and Forests. Most of our tours will start at Seamer Train Station, an excellent link to public transport. The Monday-Saturday dates link with train arrivals from York, Leeds and Hull (we advise checking timetables for changes however) so those who wish to can save on driving and reduce their carbon footprint! On the tour we use YCN's own transport, enabling us to accommodate many different abilities and ages and also to give everyone the luxury of a day's birding without the stress of driving.

In 2018 our YCN birding tours were a real success with some fantastic species seen and found: In winter; Short-eared Owl, Mediterranean Gulls, Purple Sandpiper, Great Grey Shrike, Black-throated, Red-throated and Great Northern Diver. All year round Crossbill and Northern Goshawk, Spring and summer; Honey Buzzard, Pied Flycatcher, Ring Ouzel, Wryneck and in autumn many migrants such as Yellow-browed Warbler were just some of our highlights.
